Word Tip - Edit the Default Settings for Paragraph Spacing

Word defaults to adding a line of extra paragraph spacing automatically when you press return, however if you prefer to enter your own spacing by using the return key as you go along, you can reset the default spacing for all new documents...


  • In a new Word document, on the Home tab, select the Paragraph Settings icon in the Paragraph group:

  • Change the Before point size to 0 in the Spacing section:

  • Click on Set As Default, select All documents based on the or Normal.dotm template:

  • Click OK
